Who is behind Gleamfind

I am Paweł Puchała, a PADI diving instructor. I dive in the Baltic and look for amber underwater too, where bigger pieces stay in the troughs near the seabed.

Gleamfind exists because general weather forecasts do not answer the question every amber hunter asks: is it worth driving to the coast tomorrow morning, and to which beach?

How the forecast works

Every hour we pull wave, wind and water temperature data from Open-Meteo. For each beach we calculate how much onshore wave energy worked the seabed over the last 48 hours, which phase the storm is in and how long since it peaked. The result is weighted by how much amber the beach usually gets.

The model weights are preliminary. We calibrate them with reports of finds, including empty-handed ones, so every report makes the forecast better.
