    How it works

    How to read the index

    01

Storms undercut the cliff foot and wash flint, belemnites and other fossils out of the clay. The best time is a few hours after the storm peak.

    02

We calculate onshore wave energy over the last 48 hours for each cliff. Never stand under an overhang or on a fresh landslide.

    FAQ

Where can you find fossils on the Polish Baltic coast?

Below the cliffs, for example at Trzęsacz, Jastrzębia Góra and Rozewie, in fresh debris after storms and in gravel bands.

When is the best time to look for fossils?

A few hours after a storm that hit the cliff, and after thaws when the cliff slumps. Always keep away from overhangs.

Is it legal to collect fossils on Polish beaches?

On ordinary beaches yes, by hand from loose material. Not in national parks or reserves, and digging into cliffs is dangerous and prohibited.
