Where to stand
Stand on the shore by the marina or on the beach and look north over the water. The glow of Mikołajki appears to the north-west, on your left. Check in daylight which part of the shore is public.
View to the north
The largest lake in Poland to the north, about 10 km of water
Sky darkness (Bortle scale): 3
Rules and safety
In winter do not go onto the ice, and do not take a boat out after dark just to see the aurora, because waves on Śniardwy can be big. Stay off private jetties.
About the spot
Śniardwy is the largest lake in Poland, and Zdory lies on its southern shore, at about 53.71° N. In front of you there is about 10 km of water with no buildings to the horizon. Masuria is darker than the coast, because the towns here are small and far apart.
