Where to look

Look in older forest with moss, and near birches at the edges of tracks. Chanterelles like bright pine forest, and cep like places where pine meets beech or oak. Check valley slopes, because valley floors are often too wet.

What grows here

penny bun / cep (prawdziwek), bay bolete (podgrzybek brunatny), chanterelle (kurka), slippery jack (maślak zwyczajny), saffron milk cap (rydz)

Forest: pine forest with some beech and oak, among lakes and river valleys

Season: The season starts with chanterelles in July. You will usually find bay boletes and cep from late August to October.

Rules

Picking mushrooms is banned in Drawa National Park (Drawieński Park Narodowy). In the north there is a large military training area near Drawsko Pomorskie, so watch for no-entry signs. The ban also applies in nature reserves.
