Where to look

Search the fresh strandline after storms from the north-east, away from the beach access points. The least picked-over material lies in the middle of the spit.

Wind and waves work best from: NE, N, E.

Local rules

Collecting amber on an ordinary beach is allowed. A coastal protection dune runs along the spit, so reach the beach only by the marked paths. Jasmund National Park starts east of Glowe and park rules apply there.

About the beach

The Schaabe is a spit of about 12 km on Rügen, between Glowe and Juliusruh, with a sandy beach on Tromper Wiek bay. Outside the villages this stretch is undeveloped.

Do not miss the next window

The best windows last a few hours: after a storm, after rain, on a clear night with an active Sun. Sign up and we will email you when the index at your spots goes above 60.
