Search forest edges next to fields and meadows, where deer come out to feed, and the ravines and rides they use between cover. In early spring check sunny sides of young stands, but do not enter fenced plantations.
Species
red deer, roe deer
Season: Red deer shed from February to April, most in March. Roe deer drop their antlers in autumn, from October to December.
Terrain: fir and beech forest on hills, pine forest on sand
Rules and closures
Roztocze National Park and nature reserves are excluded, because collecting antlers is banned there. Outside them, do not enter wildlife refuges or plantations marked with a no-entry sign, do not disturb animals and do not let a dog run loose (Arts. 26 and 30 of the Forest Act).
About the area
Roztocze is a belt of wooded hills between Zamość and Tomaszów Lubelski. The area around Józefów lies outside Roztocze National Park and has plenty of state forest with red deer and roe deer.
