Where to stand

Use a marked path through the dunes onto the beach and walk a few hundred metres from the entrance, away from the street lights. Lay a mat on dry sand and look up. Over the sea you see the sky down to the horizon, so you also catch long meteors skimming low.

Horizon

Open sea to the north, forest behind you; the whole sky is visible over the beach

Sky darkness (Bortle scale): 4

Rules

The dunes protect the coast from erosion, so only use the marked crossings and do not settle on the dunes. During the August Perseids the beach can be busy, so do not shine your torch in other people’s eyes.

About the spot

Dębki is a forest village by the sea, about 15 km west of Jastrzębia Góra. Buildings are sparse, and beyond the beach there is only open sea. Outside the summer season and away from the resorts, the sky here is darker than in most seaside towns.

Do not miss the next window

The best windows last a few hours: after a storm, after rain, on a clear night with an active Sun. Sign up and we will email you when the index at your spots goes above 60.
