Where to stand

Park at the GeoCenter Møns Klint car park and walk to the open meadows on top of the cliff, well back from the edge. To the east the open sea reaches the horizon. Do not go down to the beach below the cliff in the dark.

Horizon

Open sea to the east; meadows on top of the cliff give a wide view

Sky darkness (Bortle scale): 3

Rules

The cliff collapses regularly, so stay several metres back from the edge and never stand below the cliff face. In Denmark you may walk in private forests only from 06:00 until sunset, while state forests are open at night too, so stick to public land and car parks.

About the spot

The island of Møn and neighbouring Nyord gained DarkSky International status in 2017. Møns Klint is a line of chalk cliffs on the eastern tip of the island, about 80 km south of Copenhagen. There are no lights at all over the Baltic to the east.

Do not miss the next window

The best windows last a few hours: after a storm, after rain, on a clear night with an active Sun. Sign up and we will email you when the index at your spots goes above 60.
