Where to stand

Walk away from the main road and the guesthouses to an open meadow in the valley. The hills hide the sky low on the horizon, but meteors are best seen higher up, so this does not matter much. Do not climb to the mountain meadows at night.

Horizon

A valley ringed by mountain meadows; the hills hide the sky low on the horizon

Sky darkness (Bortle scale): 3

Rules

The trails up to the meadows lead into Bieszczady National Park, where you may only walk on marked trails, so check their opening hours with the park. Bears and wolves live here, so do not leave food outside and stay near the buildings.

About the spot

Wetlina is a village in the Cisna-Wetlina Landscape Park, which is also part of the Bieszczady Starry Sky Park. The valley is ringed by high mountain meadows, and the nearest large towns are far away. Few lights are on here after dark.

Do not miss the next window

The best windows last a few hours: after a storm, after rain, on a clear night with an active Sun. Sign up and we will email you when the index at your spots goes above 60.
