Where to stand

Pick an open field by the village and keep the few street lamps behind you. The forest only hides the sky low on the horizon. Park by a public road, not in the forest.

Horizon

Fields by the village surrounded by forest; the trees only hide a low band above the horizon

Sky darkness (Bortle scale): 3

Rules

In Drawa National Park you may only walk on marked trails, so ask the park office about night access. In the forests you may not drive on forest roads, camp outside marked sites or light fires.

About the spot

Zatom is a small village in the Drawno commune, at the edge of the Drawa Forest and Drawa National Park. The area around the park is among the darkest in western Poland. There are no large towns within several tens of kilometres.

Do not miss the next window

The best windows last a few hours: after a storm, after rain, on a clear night with an active Sun. Sign up and we will email you when the index at your spots goes above 60.
