Where to stand
Go to the Zselici Csillagpark centre and join a show, or ask about nearby clearings with a good view of the sky. Forest surrounds the area, so open sky is mostly found in the meadows. Check opening times before you travel.
Horizon
Wooded hills; open sky in clearings and meadows
Sky darkness (Bortle scale): 3
Rules
The park lies in a protected area managed by Duna-Dráva National Park, so stay on roads and marked sites. Forest roads are often closed to cars, so check the signs before driving on them.
About the spot
The Zselic Starry Sky Park in south-west Hungary became a DarkSky International Dark Sky Park in 2009. It is a landscape of gentle, wooded hills south of Kaposvár. Near the village of Zselickisfalud there is a visitor centre with an observatory, Zselici Csillagpark.
