Where to look

Look in pine forest around Labanoras and Kaltanėnai villages, in older pine with moss and bilberry. Cep and bay boletes grow on low rises, chanterelles in damper spots. The forest is uniform, so carry a GPS.

What grows here

penny bun / cep (prawdziwek), chanterelle (kurka), bay bolete (podgrzybek brunatny), orange birch bolete (koźlarz czerwony), saffron milk cap (rydz)

Forest: extensive pine forest on glacial sands with lakes

Season: July–October; peak in September.

Rules

In Lithuania you may pick mushrooms in forests for your own use. Picking is banned in the park's strict reserves, whose boundaries are marked by signs. Species in the Lithuanian Red Data Book are protected.

About the forest

Labanoras is the largest regional park in Lithuania, northeast of Vilnius. Large pine forests on glacial sand, scattered with lakes, are classic mushroom ground. The Labanoras forest is known for cep and chanterelles.
