Look in the spruce forests around Oravská Lesná and Oravská Polhora. Cep grows in older forest with moss, saffron milk caps in young spruce. The bogs by the Orava reservoir are valuable habitat and best avoided.

Rules
In Slovakia you may pick mushrooms for personal use. Picking is banned in reserves at protection levels 4 and 5, including the Babia hora National Nature Reserve. Pickers can also be fined for driving onto forest roads.
About the forest
Upper Orava lies in Slovakia just behind Babia hora and the Polish part of Orava. The large spruce forests of the Horná Orava Protected Landscape Area grow on damp, cool slopes. It is a good area for cep and birch boletes, a short drive from southern Poland.
