Where to look

Search the rocks around Grand Bé and near Bon-Secours beach at low water. Put stones back the way they were.

What you can find

crabs, anemones, starfish, hermit crabs, sea snails, wracks

What to do: rockpooling, mussels, wildlife watching

Shellfish and sanitary status: Gathering for your own use is allowed within sizes and limits, but the sanitary status near the town and port can be poor. Check the site's sanitary sheet on pecheapied-responsable.fr before gathering.

Rules and safety

The incoming tide cuts off the way to the islets, and the water comes back fast. Check the times on the signs at the beach and with SHOM. National sizes apply, plus the prefect's limits and bans.

About the place

Saint-Malo has some of the largest tides in France. At low tide you can walk to the islets of Grand Bé and Petit Bé and to Fort National. The rocks around them hold rock pools.
