Where to look

Head for the rocks on the north side of the beach at low water. Check the undersides of stones and the crevices, and put the stones back.

What you can find

starfish, crabs, anemones, gobies, sea urchins, seaweeds

What to do: rockpooling, wildlife watching

Shellfish and sanitary status: The bay is an SSSI inside a marine Natura 2000 site, so do not collect shellfish here. Before eating shellfish from elsewhere in Wales, check the FSA classification.

Rules and safety

The bay is an SSSI in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Look in place and take nothing. Check high water, because the rocks at the sides of the bay flood quickly.

About the place

West Angle Bay sits at the mouth of the Milford Haven waterway. The rock shelves on both sides of the beach have rich rock pools. They are home to a small green cushion star, Asterina phylactica, only described by science in 1979.
