Where to look

Look for bilberries and wood sorrel in older spruce stands and on forest edges around Kašperské Hory. Meadowsweet and yarrow grow in wet valley meadows, but stay off the peat bogs. Nettle, elder and dog rose keep to scrub by former settlements.

What grows here

bilberry, wood sorrel, stinging nettle, elder (elderflower, elderberry), yarrow, dandelion, common sorrel, wild strawberry, meadowsweet, dog rose (rosehip), common juniper

Habitats: mountain spruce and beech forest, wet meadows and peat bogs, pastures around former settlements

Rules

The Czech Forest Act (Act 289/1995, § 19) allows picking forest fruits for your own use, without damaging the forest. In Šumava National Park, zones, quiet areas (klidová území) and the park's visitor rules limit picking, and nature reserves have bans. Protected species (Decree 395/1992), such as arnica, are excluded.

About the place
