Before sunset, stand on the tower over Bagno Ławki by the Carska Droga or at the start of Grobla Honczarowska. Cranes arrive in skeins from the fields and land on the marsh as the light fades. Listen first, because skeins can be heard from several kilometres away.
What you can see
common crane, greater white-fronted goose, white-tailed eagle, moose
Best time: September to October, dusk
Rules
Entry to Biebrza National Park needs a ticket, and you stay on trails and towers (Article 15 of the Nature Conservation Act). The crane is protected, and disturbing flocks at the roost is banned by the regulation issued under Article 52 of that act. Do not shine a torch towards the marsh and do not launch a drone.
About the place
The lower basin of the Biebrza valley is one of the largest autumn crane roosts in Poland. In one October count, 5,400 birds were seen flying in for the night here. Local cranes roost here from August, and in September birds from Finland and the Baltic states join them.
