Where to watch

You watch bears from the tundra vehicles of licensed operators, which drive in the protected area east of town. Book well ahead, because the season lasts only a few weeks. The best time is the second half of October and the first half of November.

What you can see

polar bear, Arctic fox, beluga whale

Best time: mid-October to mid-November, all day

Rules

Do not walk outside town and do not go out at night without need, because bears come into Churchill. Report a bear in town to the Manitoba Polar Bear Alert program on 204-675-2327. In the Churchill Wildlife Management Area you move only with a licensed operator.

About the place

Churchill on Hudson Bay is the best-known place in the world to watch polar bears. In autumn the bears wait on the shore for the bay to freeze so they can return to the ice. In summer beluga whales swim in the mouth of the Churchill River.

Do not miss the next window

The best windows last a few hours: after a storm, after rain, on a clear night with an active Sun. Sign up and we will email you when the index at your spots goes above 60.
