From Słońsk and Przyborów the Ptasim Szlakiem trail, known as the Betonka, leads towards the Postomia river. Cranes are best seen when they fly in to roost at dusk and when they leave for the fields at dawn. After rain the dike roads can be impassable, so walk or cycle.
What you can see
common crane, taiga/tundra bean goose, greater white-fronted goose, white-tailed eagle, aquatic warbler
Best time: late September to October, dawn and sunset
Rules
The common crane is protected, and disturbing birds at roosts and flock feeding sites is banned by the regulation issued under Article 52 of the Nature Conservation Act. In the park you walk only on trails, and in March and April the Betonka is often flooded. Outside the park, near Czaplin, goose hunting runs from September to December.
About the place
Słońsk lies in the southern part of Warta Mouth National Park, on the former Słońsk reserve. In autumn the park counts about 10,000 cranes, and the record from 2013 is 19,000. Passage peaks in late September and early October.
