Best time: March to April and October to November, dawn
Rules
On dikes inside the reserve you use only marked routes, and some are closed in the breeding season, so check the signs on site. Disturbing birds at roosts and flock feeding sites is banned by the regulation issued under Article 52 of the Nature Conservation Act. The ponds are working fish farms, so keep off water structures and do not get in the way of the harvest.
About the place
The Milicz Ponds in the Barycz valley are one of the largest fish pond complexes in Europe, protected as a reserve and a Natura 2000 site. In spring and autumn thousands of geese, ducks and cranes stop here. The autumn fish harvest draws white-tailed eagles and herons.
